Årsmøte i SIRKUNST 21. oktober 2010

Nøyaktig sted for møtet vil bli annonsert senere.

JUGGLING THE ARTS: Open Call for professional contemporary circus artists

Deadline: October 1st, 2010

Artistic laboratory at Subtopia in Alby/Botkyrka (Sweden), November 15-19, 2010. Juggling the Arts is arranging its second artistic laboratory for professional Nordic artists in November 2010. Artists from each Nordic country will be given the opportunity to work for five days with three mentors at Subtopia.

Juggling the Arts workshop focuses on the artistic research processes in the field of contemporary circus. The international team of workshop mentors (Daniel Gulko, Sverre Waage and Maksim Komaro) guides the participants in developing their own artistic projects. Discussions, exercises, experiments and artist encounters encourage the participants to test, challenge and deepen their ideas and artistic processes. Juggling the Arts programme aims at strengthening the artistic processes and the research aspect on the Scandinavian contemporary circus scene.

Artists can apply individually or as a team, and it is not necessary to be working on a specific project. The main purpose is to develop the artistic research work.

The mentors:

Daniel Gulko, director of Cahin-caha, has developed a “bastard” style: hybrid, irreverent, lyrical and dense. Born in the USA, Gulko has led a 30 year international career; navigating between experimental and political performance, street spectacle and modern ritual. Living in France since 1993, Gulko was a founding member and director of the group “Pocheros” before creating “Cahin-caha” in 1998. The result of this international criss-crossing of experiences and meetings are creations including raWdoG 1999, GRIMM 2003, Moby Locked-Up 2007, REV 2010.

Maksim Komaro is one of Finland’s most established contemporary circus artists. He has over ten years’ experience of creating circus theatre and is co-founder of Circo Aereo with Jani Nuutinen. Komaro has worked with Compagnie Jérôme Thomas and has directed several works such as FUR!, Louisiana Circus, Espresso, one of his most famous works, with Les Objets Volants, and recently Petit Mal with Race Horse Company, one of the winners of Jeunes Talents Cirque Europe in 2010. He is renowned as a juggling innovator.

Sverre Waage is a Norwegian director, script writer and producer. 30 years ago he started working with performance art, new circus and street art, as a performer and creator. After an injury in 1987 he started working as a director and artistic director at theatres and festivals. In 2001 he founded Cirkus Xanti and that was also the year of his first big tent production of contemporary circus, “Ringen”. In 2006 his circus-theatre creation “Trollprinsen” was awarded The Norwegian Theatre Unions Hedda-prize for best performance. He is the founder and leader of The Circus Village, a mobile international festival, network and resident space in Norway.
